Moody Queenstown Elopement

Elopements are all the rage these days, so here’s another one! Annie and Garth’s elopement was extra special couple, there’s no other way to put it. They were originally planning a big wedding, but it just didn’t feel right to them. I don’t play favourites, I love weddings & elopements both for their own reasons. I am, however, a HUGE fan of couples who do what feels right to them. There’s no magic answer to whether you should elope or have a wedding, I think it boils down to a feeling in your gut. Annie had that gut feeling and she trusted it. It was epic. We had been instagram-pals for a while, so she confided in me about how she was feeling. That’s when we started to chat about eloping. I’ve been lucky to travel all over with the Elopement Collective, they made elopements cool before this pandemic did! It’s always easy for me to recommend them because they literally are my fave.

Eloping in New Zealand was also a no-brainer: it’s equal parts close to Australia and stunning. It gets bonus points for reminding me of Canada & making me feel at home. Win win. The only hiccup was the rain. As in torrential downpour. I knew going into the day that Annie liked moody photos/ weather, but I don’t think either of us were expecting *that* much mood. Their original ceremony location was flooded, as was plan B + C. We all hopped into the rental car + hit the road running! We drove in just about every possible direction, trying to out-drive the rain. We soon realized the entire south island was covered by one giant rain cloud, and that we’d have to suck it up!

Regardless, they absolutely slayed. We found cover under some trees for the ceremony. Their vows were a beautiful glimpse into their love + life together. Listening to couples promise forever to each other will never get old. That carried well into their portrait session. The rain was relentless, so we only had about 15 minutes to shoot portraits. They were absolute legends & got soaked to their bones to get the shots. I’ll always remember the win and the rain, and these two cuties running around — wildly in love. Can’t wait to get them in front of my camera again one day soon! ♡
